Senior Rabbi Search Committee Chairs Announced
We are delighted to announce that longtime Temple leaders Scott McCartney and Julie Weinberg have been selected to lead the senior rabbi search committee.
Both leaders are experienced in Temple governance and search processes. Scott is a past president and past co-chair of TE150. He has co-led searches for Cantor Vicky Glikin and Cantor Margo Wagner. He is currently president of the Temple Emanu-El Foundation.
Julie currently chairs the Leadership Council. As a member of the Board of Trustees, she has chaired social justice efforts and also served as social justice chair for TE150. She has also served as treasurer for the Temple Emanu-El Foundation.
Scott and Julie worked together as co-chairs for the Perimeter Barrier Task Force.
“With these two extraordinary leaders at the helm, we are confident that the senior rabbi search process will meet all our goals of finding the right senior rabbi for Temple Emanu-El, with fairness, integrity and transparency,” says President Sara M. Albert.
The Search Process: What to Expect
This summer, the Core Planning Team for From Strength to Strength is preparing to develop and submit an application to the CCAR, the Central Conference of American Rabbis, to kick off the search process. Here are some FAQs about that process.
How will the next senior rabbi be selected?
A rabbinic search committee has been created to facilitate the search. According to Temple’s bylaws, both the Board of Trustees and the Leadership Council must approve the selection and hiring of the new senior rabbi. Temple’s position will be open for applicants in August, 2026.
What is the role of the search committee?
The search committee will review applications from leading candidates, conduct interviews and recommend a final candidate to the Leadership Council and Board of Trustees.
What is the role of the CCAR?
The CCAR is the professional organization for Reform rabbis, and manages the placement process between congregations and rabbis. Temple is required to use the CCAR system to identify and hire our next senior rabbi.
What is the timeline for hiring a new senior rabbi?
We plan to begin interviews after the High Holy Days, recognizing that qualified candidates will be busy at their own congregations during that time! We hope to make a decision by spring 2027.
What if we don’t find the right candidate by July 1, 2027?
Temple is committed to finding the right rabbi in a rigorous, fair and transparent process, and we have every confidence that our strong, vibrant congregation will attract outstanding candidates. If we don’t find the right person, however, we are prepared to select an interim rabbi.
