Ten Commandments in the Classroom with Dr. Mark Chancey

Join us for the 2025 Rabbi David Lefkowitz Memorial Lecture weekend. We are honored to welcome back Dr. Mark Chancey, Professor of Religious Studies at SMU and a nationally recognized expert on religion in public schools, for his fifth presentation at Temple Emanu-El.

This lecture and Q&A session will take a closer look at the impact of the recently passed Texas law requiring schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom. Dr. Chancey will also review the translations, versions and denominational views of the Ten Commandments. Note: Dr. Chancey’s presentation will replace the weekly Chever Torah class.emple
