Temple Archives: Discover Our Hanukkiyot

Dec 16, 2025 / 26 Kislev, 5786

Temple’s collection of hanukkiyot reflects the richness of our community’s history, creativity and values.

Our historic Hanukkah menorah, in use since at least the South Boulevard era and still lit each year at our congregational celebration and during the annual choir performance at NorthPark Mall, appears in a black-and-white photograph where Joan Lynn, Barbara Ravkind, and an unidentified boy kindle its lights under the guidance of Rabbi David Lefkowitz.

A more contemporary piece, created with artist Gary Rosenthal, z”l, incorporates fused-glass tiles put together by Temple members during a 2002 Women of Reform Judaism program, forming a vibrant communal artwork.

Our whimsical train-shaped menorah, gifted by Anat Hoffman during her 2016 visit, carries her metaphor of the Women of the Wall movement, strong, determined and moving essential justice work forward.

Finally, a ceramic Statue of Liberty hanukkiyah, donated by Celia Saunders in honor of her Aunt Rae Adams, celebrates the welcoming of immigrants and stands as a reminder of Temple’s ongoing commitment to hospitality, hope and justice.
