Welcome Our New Student Cantor
Joshua Mostyn will be working at Temple Emanu-El as our student cantor for 13 weekends this school year. He will be leading Shabbat morning services in Lefkowitz Chapel, co-officiating Shabbat evening services with our clergy team and leading prayer and teaching in the Center for Jewish Learning.
“As a student cantor, I am grateful for the opportunity to grow and learn so much while developing and honing my own style as a prayer leader,” says Joshua, who also looks forward to working with Cantor Vicky Glikin and learning more about Temple and Dallas.
Joshua is a second-year student at the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music at Hebrew Union College and expects to be ordained as a cantor in spring 2030. He grew up at Temple Shir Shalom in West Bloomfield, Michigan, and was mentored by Cantor Penny Steyer. He was in the youth choir and performed Purim spiels with his family. He attended Tamarack Camps in Michigan for six years, and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in vocal performance and a minor in Jewish studies.
