DESCRIPTION:The 2023 Rabbi Levi A. Olan Lecture is the second of three keynote lectures for TE150. Rabbi Marmur will address the landscape of contemporary Judaism\, particularly through the lens of modern Israel. A scholar in modern Jewish thought\, Rabbi Marmur describes anxiety as a significant engine for Jewish spirituality and theology. He also explores the dynamics of hope: “Hope is the national anthem of Israel…what does it mean to look at the world with hope?” Rabbi Marmur is the Vice-President for Academic Affairs of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Based in Jerusalem\, he works with colleagues on each of HUC’s campuses. His doctoral work is on the work of Abraham Joshua Heschel.
