UPCOMING 2021 EVENTS
An Evening with Abby Stein
Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m. | Zoom
Activist Abby Stein discusses her journey from ultra-orthodox rabbi to woman of trans experience. Stein’s Hasidic community in Williamsburg believed that, as a 10th generation of the Baal Shem Tov, she was destined to be a rabbinic leader. They also believed she was a boy. But Abby felt certain at a young age that she was a girl, and eventually orchestrated a personal exodus from ultra-Orthodox manhood to mainstream femininity—a radical choice that forced her to leave her home, her family, her way of life. Less than five years later, she is a sought-after speaker and prominent activist for gender equality. She will share her story of two transitions, with a focus on gender and Jewish identity. Register here. (This event will not be recorded.)
Friday, June 11 at 6:15 p.m. | In-person and Online
As a place that seeks to offer learning, prayer and deeds to change people’s understanding of themselves, we invite you to join us in person (or online!) for a special Pride Shabbat. This service will explore how to best support our LGBTQ community through allyship and advocacy in the Jewish community and beyond.
A big mazel tov to those getting married! Please contact us if you’re interested in having Temple clergy officiate a wedding.
