Exploring Mishkan T’filah-A Reform Siddur: May 2008

Our new prayer books, Mishkan T’filah, have arrived and we are already using them on Friday nights at 6:15 and Saturday mornings at 10:30. Each month we will print a different passage in The Window to help you explore the power of the prayers and poetry of this wonderful prayer book of our Reform Movement.

Note: Prayers for the peace of Jerusalem and for the land of Israel have been part of our liturgical tradition since Biblical times. This prayer For the State of Israel found on page 259 draws upon those ancient roots in our modern times. We pray that Israel, which celebrates its 60th anniversary of modern statehood, will continue not only to be blessed but will continue to be a source of blessing to our world.

PRAY for the peace of Jerusalem;
may those who love you prosper.

O HEAVENLY ONE, Protector and Redeemer of Israel,
bless the State of Israel which marks the dawning of hope for all who seek peace.
Shield it beneath the wings of Your love; spread over it the canopy of Your peace;
send Your light and truth to all who lead and advise,
guiding them with Your good counsel.
Establish peace in the land and fullness of joy for all who dwell there.
Amen.
