UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES

  • URJ Regional Biennial, Dallas
    A variety of volunteer jobs are needed to staff the November 2008 URJ Southwest Council Regional Biennial in Dallas. Jobs include hosts/hostesses for hospitality room, design and make centerpieces for Friday and Saturday evening, transport guest speakers to/from airport, stuff welcome bags for guest speakers and registrant packages, help at registration, monitor meeting rooms, greeters, bus monitors, etc.
    Time commitment: November 7-9, varies depending on project.

HOLIDAYS

  • High Holy Days Preparation
    Assist with High Holy Days preparation. Opportunities include: packet assembly, envelope stuffing, processing seating requests, proofreading, staffing the guest services table, greeting at High Holy Days services, etc.
    Time commitment: Varies depending on project.

  • Young Adults Rosh Hashanah Reception
    Join the planning committee with other Young Adults (21-39) to help organize this event.
    Time commitment: 10 hours the week of Rosh Hashanah.

  • Apples and Honey
    Prepare apples and honey trays for presentation during Rosh Hashanah for the first taste of a sweet New Year.

  • Break the Fast
    Help coordinate this flavorful end to a day of prayer. Opportunities include shopping, making phone calls, and cooking.

  • Sukkot Across Emanu-El
    Be a part of the planning committee to coordinate Sukkot Across Emanu-El.

    Come and bring your creativity to decorate the Sukkah.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

  • Dolls for Darfur
    Raise awareness and encourage advocacy about the genocide in Darfur. Make pins, fill orders, make phone calls or distribute materials.
    Time commitment: 1-2 hours/month. Can be done from home.

  • Tutoring at Jill Stone Elementary
    This school is located close to Temple in distance, but it is not in a wealthy neighborhood. Many of these families are at or below the poverty level. The principal has asked for volunteers to tutor the 3rd-5th graders during school hours.
    Time commitment: 1-2 hours/week or month, during school hours (8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.).

  • Jill Stone Elementary Fun Saturdays
    Play with the kids while their parents attend classes. Appropriate for school-aged children with their parents. Great for teens! Saturday afternoon on May 17.
    Time commitment: 2-3 hours/month.

  • Vickery Meadow Food Distribution
    Organize and distribute food to the families of Vickery Meadow. Distributions are the 3rd and 4th Wednesday and 4th Friday of each month, plus one Saturday a month.

CARING CONGREGATION

  • Caring Around the Corner
    Temple members in the same zip codes reach out to each other for celebration and need. Help organize or host.
    Time commitment: Initially 3-5 hours, after that 1 hour/month.

  • Careline Volunteer
    Answer emergency number after hours.
    Time commitment: 1 weeknight/month. All instructions are emailed and training is provided.

  • Senior Center Havdalah
    Help lead a Havdalah service at a nursing facility. CD and service provided.
    No experience necessary.

    Go by and visit one of our members in an assisted living community.

    Celebrating the birth of a new baby is a happy occasion at Temple. Caring Congregation volunteers knit adorable baby booties which are sent to our new parents. More knitters are needed to knit these sweet gifts of love.

YOUNG ADULT AND YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

  • Young Adults
    The Temple Emanu-El Young Adults group provides meaningful opportunities to explore Jewish tradition and enrich our Jewish experience. We connect young adults in their 20's and 30's to a welcoming, diverse, Reform Jewish community with inspiring social, educational, spiritual, and social justice programming. There are plenty of ways to get involved!

  • Tuesday Noshery Chaperones
    We need adults to supervise the Tuesday Hebrew students who come early to Hebrew School. Adult chaperones will watch students playing in the Youth Wing, supervise students while they clean up, and escort students to Pollman Hall for worship service.
    Time commitment: Tuesdays, 3:45-4:30 p.m., 4:30-5:30 p.m.
