A Voice of Conscience
“Justice, justice shall you pursue.” —Deuteronomy 16:20
Tikkun Olam means “repair of the world.” It encompasses all of our responsibilities as Jews to bring the world closer to God’s vision of wholeness and perfection.
The concept of Tikkun Olam was created by Rabbi Isaac Luria, a mystic in the city of Safed in the Land of Israel during the sixteenth century. He created an entire narrative in which our world turned out to be made up of the broken pieces of what should have been a perfect creation. Today, Tikkun Olam is identified with working for social justice, peace, freedom, equality and the restoration of the environment.
Throughout our history, Temple Emanu-El has served as a voice of conscience in the Dallas community. With social justice as one of our core values, congregants of all ages participate in projects that reach out to those in need.
Tikkun Olam/Repairing the World is at heart of everything we do as Jews. Learn more about our social justice legacy and presence at Temple Emanu-El.
