Vickery Meadow Food Pantry

Temple Emanu-El’s successful Food Pantry effort in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood is moving into a new era, joining forces with other faith-based organizations to create one large, coordinated food pantry in a central location to meet the escalating needs of our neighbors.

Beginning in November, Temple’s Food Pantry and volunteer operation will become part of the newly formed Vickery Meadow Neighborhood Alliance (VMNA). In this new effort, the food pantry will have one location on Fair Oaks Drive, about two miles east of NorthPark Mall, where residents will have a choice of days and times to come to get food. The population, now heavy with refugees, will also have the opportunity to select foods appropriate for their families.

For the past five years the Temple Emanu-El Food Pantry project, in cooperation with Jewish Family Service, has served some 90 families in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood from three temporary locations. On three Wednesdays per month, Temple volunteers come to Vickery Meadow to dispense food to needy families.

We will join with Catholic Charities of Dallas, which had its own separate food pantry operation near Vickery Meadow, as well as the International Rescue Committee, St. Vincent de Paul and Jewish Family Service to better serve the neighborhood needs. The new organization will be part of the Vickery Meadow Improvement District. In addition, Presbyterian Hospital Foundation has selected this effort for their charitable giving this year. The Temple Emanu-El Board of Trustees gave its authority to move forward with this process.

Temple Emanu-El is committing to staff the VMNA Food Pantry four days per month from the beginning of operation. Seasoned volunteers will be trained in the new procedures along with new volunteers. If you are physically active and have a few hours a month to volunteer, this might be the project for you. Contact Rose Watel at or call 214.363.0484.
