High Holy Day Service Descriptions
Olan Sanctuary Services, Evening and Daytime
Experience the beauty of the High Holy Days, as we participate in worship with our Rabbis, Cantor and our wonderful Temple Emanu-El Choir. Full of warmth, energy and spirituality, these services bring depth and meaning to our sacred texts, as we celebrate together using the Gates of Repentance prayer book.
Pollman Hall Rosh Hashanah Evening Services
Familiar liturgy, a contemporary musical environment and the informal intimacy of Pollman Hall combine to provide a refreshing start to the New Year.
5:45 p.m. • Open to all Temple members (Seating is limited.)
Young Adult Rosh Hashanah Service and Reception
Young adults, ages 21-39, married and single, are invited to join us for Rosh Hashanah worship and celebration. The service, led by Rabbi Oren Hayon, begins at 8:15 p.m. in Pollman Hall and is followed by an Apple Martini Reception at 9:30 p.m. in Linz Hall. Young Adults attending services with their families are encouraged to join the Young Adult Reception in Linz Hall. Please show your High Holy Day admission card to gain access to Temple for services and the reception.
Pollman Hall Rosh Hashanah Daytime Services
Contemporary readings, communal music and the Pollman Hall setting create an informal environment for High Holy Day prayer. This adult service, using the Gates of Repentance prayer book, will include special children’s programming for grades three through six in a nearby room during the sermon.
Pollman Hall Yom Kippur Morning Service
This year we are offering a Yom Kippur Morning worship experience designed exclusively for school-aged children (grades 2-6) and their families, including grandparents. The service will utilize Gates of Repentance for Young People, informal liturgy, participatory music, and an interactive learning opportunity connected with the themes of the holiday. Families of children in the target age-range are encouraged to attend one of these two services and experience Yom Kippur in a new, fresh, and exciting way.
Service for Young Children and Their Families
Joyful singing, an engaging story, and a beautifully illustrated new prayer book, Gates of Repentance for Young People, enhance these services designed especially for families with young children, from toddlers through second grade, in the Olan Sanctuary. Visit with friends for apples and honey following the service on Rosh Hashanah.
Yom Kippur Study: Mind, Body, Spirit
Monday, Sept. 28 12:15 - 1:15 p.m. and 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
All of us can access Jewish spirituality in a wide variety of ways. During this year’s Yom Kippur study, we will have the opportunity to learn from several insightful lay teachers about how holiness can be explored and cultivated in our everyday lives. All three study opportunities will be offered each hour.
Mind
Reaching into Jewish texts, along with the other endeavors of our mind, can highlight a sacred connection between the intellectual and the spiritual. Undertaken with the proper perspective, learning and thinking can help us encounter the presence of something larger than ourselves.
Body
The work of our hands can also become the work of our hearts. When we nurture a garden or weave a new tapestry, we are linking to the sacred space within. Uncover one of the many ways that our skills and
passions can help us find God in unexpected places and times.
Spirit
The expansion and contraction of our own breathing mirrors the same pulse in the universe. Learn to
connect with this powerful force through Jewish meditation techniques. Find out how to use relaxation and centering practices to deepen your connection with God’s presence.
