Shabbat of Repentance, Shabbat Shuvah
October 3 and 4 • Friday at 6:15 p.m. in Olan Sanctuary and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Lefkowitz Chapel
Between the majesty of Rosh Hashanah and the intensity of Yom Kippur, we celebrate the intimacy of Shabbat. Music, words of prayer, moments of silence, the voices of the prophets calling upon us to renew our commitments to Jewish life, and to make changes in our behavior and focus our sacred work of repentance. As always, child care is provided for children ages 18 months to 5 years old.

Kever Avot: Service of Remembrance
Sunday, October 5 • 5 p.m. • Temple Cemetery and Mausoleum
In Jewish tradition it is a mitzvah to visit the graves of our ancestors. Our community custom of Kever Avot is to hold a meaningful service of remembrance led by our clergy whether you have loved ones buried at the historic Temple Emanu-El Cemetery or elsewhere. It is a time when we may confront our own mortality and it may help us to face the future with serious intent and purposefulness. The cemetery is a place for contemplation and reflection. It is a holy place, sanctified by tears, prayers and the physical remains of our predecessors. For more information, please contact Peggy Papert at ppapert@tedallas.org or 214.706.0000, ext. 151.

Early Childhood Tashlich
Monday, October 6
The Pre-School children will learn the meaning of forgiveness through observance of Tashlich. Through stories and classroom discussion, the children think about what they may have done wrong this last year. With the help of a teacher, they write these misdeeds on paper. Through a meaningful ceremony in the Gan Shalom, they wash away their misdeeds and celebrate their renewal. For more information, please contact Shelly Sender at ssender@tedallas.org or 214.706.0020.

Yom Kippur Afternoon Service
Thursday, October 9 • Approximately 3:30 p.m.

We will incorporate music that spans the generations as well as creative writings and reflections of congregants. We will be inspired by the Holiness Code and may even laugh as we listen to the Book of Jonah. During Yizkor, the Memorial Service, we will link ourselves to those who came before us.
