Candice and Robert Haas Visiting Scholar
The High Holy Day season is designed as a time for intensive introspection; a time for reflection on how we have lived the past year and how we want to live in the coming year.
Join us for a special weekend of spiritual renewal as we explore three major areas of Jewish religious life--Torah, worship, and acts of loving kindness. How do we experience each of these dimensions in our lives? Can we imagine living so that head, heart, and hands are integrated and mutually enriching?

Yom Kippur Study
Finding Ordinary Happiness in Simple Pleasures:
Reading, Writing and Listening

Saturday, Sept. 18, 12:30 – 2 p.m., Linz Hall
Dr. Willard Spiegelman, Duwain E. Hughes Jr. Distinguished Professor of English, Southern Methodist University

On this Day of Atonement and reflection, Willard Spiegelman will talk about some ideas from his recent book, Seven Pleasures: Essays on Ordinary Happiness. He will focus on the ways in which attentiveness helps to center the body, the mind, and the spirit. His pleasures are also, importantly, activities that foster, and come of, what Wordsworth called “the bliss of solitude.” In an age of mass culture, group activity, and too much noise, peace and quiet are in short supply.
