Temple Emanu-El Just Congregations Initiative and DAI invite you to
Chasing the American Dream: The Fight for the Middle Class and Civil Society

Please join us for an informative and engaging workshop where we will focus on the economic strains faced today by families of all income levels.

Has trickle down economics been the rising tide to float all boats? Is your family living the American Dream? What about the families living around you?

In 1968 the minimum wage was $1.60. That equals $9.34 in today's dollars.

Did you know that worker productivity in the U.S. increased by more than 250% since 1947 while real median family income, adjusted for inflation, has increased by only 150%? And, to achieve those gains American families are now working 500 more hours each year?

Join members from Temple Emanu-El and other DAI member congregations such as First Unitarian Church of Dallas, King of Glory Lutheran Church, and Oak Cliff Unitarian Universality Church for a lively two hour workshop focusing on the reasons and possible consequences of the rapidly widening income gap in the United States. The workshop will explore how the current imbalance of market, civic and government sectors in our society has disconnected productivity increases from income growth and failed to fulfill the promise that "a rising tide lifts all boats". We will discuss how we can work to rebuild the middle class, restore civic institutions and participation, and make sure the American Dream is an achievable reality for all our citizens both now and into the future.
