Temple Emanu-El's Regular Adult Jewish learning classes include:

All About Torah
A three course adult learning opportunity focusing on Torah. Each six session course will be taught by Rabbi Debra Robbins and will be an opportunity for adults to learn together on Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. All about Torah II will be offered in Spring, 2010.

Bea Kabler Chever Torah Class
Join our rabbis for a deeper look into the meanings of the weekly Torah portion. This interactive discussion brings modern eyes to ancient, sacred texts. Free child care is available.

Talmud
How does Jewish capital punishment take place? What does a Jewish courtroom look like? What sorts of evidence are admissible, and which witnesses would be thrown out of court? Rabbi Hayon will be addressing these issues in a course for adults interested in learning Talmud. Start your day off right with Talmud!

Torah from the Beginning
Jewish theology, history, liturgy, and philosophy are all explored in a class that fits beginners and advanced students alike. New participants are always welcome to this lively and warm learning community.

Stepping Stones to Jewish Knowledge: A Basic Judaism Course
Stepping Stones to Jewish Knowledge is divided into two seperate courses making it easier and more convenient for you to get the knowledge that you need while adding this community building experience to your busy schedule.

Our Homes, Families and Community (Session 1) begins on Tuesday, September 7. The eight sessions will be taught by Renee Karp. Classes meet on Tuesday nights from 7:30 – 9 p.m. on Sept. 7, 14, 21, and 28, and Oct. 5, 19 and 27. The class will also meet to celebrate Sukkot together on Friday, Sept. 24.

Our History, Literature and Faith (Session 2) begins on Tuesday November 2 and will be taught by Robin Kosberg. Classes meet on Tuesday nights from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. on Nov. 2, 9,16, and 30 and Dec. 7 and 14. The class will also meet on two Shabbat mornings on Saturdays Dec. 11 and 18, at 9:00 a.m., and students will then attend services together.

CHAYEI T'FILLAH: Building a Life of Prayer
Led by Cantor Richard Cohn

• How do we open ourselves more fully to the experience of prayer?
• How can we relate to the language of the prayer book?
• What do Jewish sources teach us about prayer?
• How can music open pathways of connection to God?
• How can we understand our lives as an embodied form of prayer?

Chayei T’fillah will consist of five participatory Shabbat afternoon sessions, from noon until 1:30. A narrative thread will connect the sessions, and students are encouraged to attend as many as possible. A light lunch will be included.
