It’s All About Torah III: Interpreting Torah

Spring 2008

Learn how to study Torah, use the commentaries of our tradition, and add your own interpretation to our most sacred text. No prior experience is necessary to begin exploring how to access the rich historic sources (in English!) of our tradition, to confirm and challenge your ideas of what the Torah meant in the past and means for us today. Through the texts of our class we will travel through time and meet:

  • the most creative rabbis who lived in the 3rd Century CE in Babylonia
  • the most famous biblical commentator, Rashi, who lived in France (1040-1105)
  • Rabbi Gunther Plaut who wrote the commentary for our Reform Movement
  • Aviva Gottlieb Zornberg who lives in Jerusalem today
  • as well as many other men and women through the ages

It's All About Torah III will meet on Sunday mornings in Linz Hall from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on February 17 and 24, March 2 and 9, and April 6 and 13.

Advanced registration is necessary and there is a $25 fee to cover materials and the cost of our text book, A Torah Commentary for Our Times, Vol. I, by Rabbi Harvey J. Fields. Please register by contacting Diana Hall at 214.706.0017 or dhall@tedallas.org.
