The Chai Road: Spring 2008 Adult Hebrew Classes

Reading Fluency 1 :
This course will enable you to develop your reading skills, improving both your fluency and accuracy, and to gain an understanding of the meaning of some of the prayers from our prayerbook. The course will begin to help you recognize key words that appear in many prayers.
Prerequisite: Basic Hebrew reading skills
Book: None. Handouts will be provided.
Times offered: (choose one)
Sunday morning, 9:30 a.m.-10:45 a.m. beginning February 3
Thursday evening, 6:45 p.m.-8:00 p.m. beginning February 7

Reading Fluency 2 :
This course will continue to develop your reading skills, and comfort and understanding with the Hebrew prayers used in our worship services.
Prerequisite: Basic Hebrew reading skills
Book: None. Handouts will be provided.
Times offered: Sunday morning, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon beginning February 3

Prayerbook Hebrew 2:
This is a continuation of the Prayerbook Hebrew 1 class from fall 2007. The class begins with Chapter 10 or 11 in the text. In addition to numerous exercises in the book, the class will study numerous phrases and selections from prayers to illustrate the concepts.
Prerequisite: Basic Hebrew reading skills
Book: Prayerbook Hebrew the Easy Way, 3rd Edition
Times offered: Sunday morning, 10:45 a.m.-12:00 noon beginning February 3

Prayerbook Hebrew 3:
This is a continuation of the Prayerbook Hebrew 2 course from fall 2007. The class begins with Chapter 15 or 16 in the text. In addition to numerous exercises in the book, the class will study numerous phrases and selections from prayers to illustrate the concepts.
Prerequisite: Basic Hebrew reading skills and consent of instructor
Book: Prayerbook Hebrew the Easy Way, 3rd Edition
Time offered: Thursday evening, 6:45 p.m.-8:00 p.m. beginning February 7

Biblical Hebrew 3:
This course is a continuation of the Biblical Hebrew course from fall 2007. It continues to focus on understanding biblical text. Students will learn the vocabulary and grammar, and work through translations of passages of text.
Prerequisite: Consent of instructor. Students should have knowledge of basic Hebrew grammar and knowledge of prayerbook vocabulary is helpful.
Book: First Hebrew Reader
Time offered: Sunday morning, 9:15 a.m.-10:30 a.m., beginning February 3
