Adult Hebrew Learning: 2011-2012

Beginning Hebrew
This course will teach you the Hebrew aleph-bet and how to read Hebrew words. At the conclusion of the course, you will be able to read Hebrew words, know the meaning of at least fifteen of the most common words in the prayerbook, recognize numerous other words related to Jewish living and know at least ten of the common roots for the entire families of prayerbook words.

Sundays during Religious School
9:30 – 10:30 a.m. and
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Beginning Sept. 18
Prerequisite: None, except a desire to learn to read Hebrew

Prayerbook Hebrew, Level 1
For students who have basic Hebrew reading skills. You will increase your vocabulary of prayerbook words and begin to develop an understanding of Hebrew grammar. The class will include reading practice to enable you to increase your Hebrew reading fluency.

Beginning Sept. 18
Prerequisite: Comfort with reading Hebrew text or consent of instructor

Biblical Hebrew, Level 1
For students with knowledge of basic biblical Hebrew grammar, this course will enable you to improve your ability to understand biblical Hebrew. Students will read and translate passages from the Book of Ruth and simple stories. Other texts may also be explored

Thursday evenings
6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Beginning Sept. 15
Prerequisite: Comfort with reading Hebrew text or consent of instructor

Advanced Biblical Hebrew
For students who have completed Biblical Hebrew, Level 1 and wish to continue advancing their understanding of biblical Hebrew grammar and texts.
