Dear Friends:

We are very excited about our newly renovated Weiss Youth Wing at Temple Emanu-El! The new space is equipped with many exciting technological features that will help educate, entertain, and facilitate social interaction among our youth. The Weiss Youth Wing is primarily devoted to programming for youth in grades 6 through 12, though the space may be utilized in the future for elementary age events also.

Our Temple youth department staff and youth committee are planning fun and exciting new youth programs for this summer and fall. We are working on a plan to open the youth wing on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings next fall for kids to do homework and socialize after school. In the meantime, we are working to ensure that the resources offered in our new facility are utilized in a healthy, safe, and respectful manner that honors our middot – Jewish values – of learning, community, and character.

We expect that the renovated Weiss Youth Wing will be the most popular place to be at Temple for our children in grades 6-12. The new space has four computer terminals with wireless Internet access. There is also a 60-inch high-definition television equipped with surround sound and satellite via DirecTV, and a brand-new HD-DVD player. We have the ability listen to music through the stereo radio receiver, CD, or by utilizing an I-pod docking station. There are also low-tech, high-fun options available including billiards, foosball, air hockey, and ping pong. A large supply of good old-fashioned board games, donated by members of Temple’s Board of Trustees, fills the bookshelves.

Along with all of this great new “stuff” comes additional responsibility. Attached to this letter is a list of Frequently Asked Questions, designed to apprise your family of policy and procedure measures we have put in place in connection with usage of our new computer and television resources. Our goal is to provide youth programming that utilizes our fantastic new facilities in a fun, healthy, and respectful environment.
