How We Share the Care: Mitzvah Meals

Lynn Friedlander and Peggy Trubitt, Mitzvah Meal delivery Co-Chairs, prepare bags for delivery to congregants at home after being discharged from the hospital.

Delivering Mitzvah Meals is one way that the Caring Congregation of Temple Emanu-El and its volunteers Share the Care.

What is a Mitzvah Meal? A Mitzvah Meal is one which includes homemade matzo ball soup, a small challah and brownies and is delivered to congregants who have been discharged from the hospital. The food is prepared and delivered by dedicated Temple volunteers.

Temple members volunteer to deliver these meals once or twice during the year for a week at a time. The volunteer contacts the recipients, picks up the meals at Temple, and delivers them.

We need volunteers! A few hours of your time can bring you and a fellow congregant much joy. If you wish to Share the Care by delivering Mitzvah Meals, baking challah or cooking, please contact Betsy Kleinman by email or at 972-661-9110.
