Bernie Maslow brightens 85 lives

Bernie Maslow is a new member of Temple Emanu-El. Only four months after his December 2006 retirement from the lighting business, 82-year-old Bernie found a new way to brighten lives. A few months ago, Bernie visited three friends at an assisted living facility. After visiting his friends, he noticed a big smile on their faces. Bernie decided to tell Peggy Papert, our Caring Congregation staff liaison, about his visit. After brainstorming with Peggy about a possible new volunteer initiative for Temple, Bernie decided to make this his New Year project.

For two weeks, Bernie visited Jewish patients in fourteen different assisted living facilities. “It was a blessing to see the expression on their faces when I visited these people.” Now Bernie is looking for friendly faces to help him expand this program to Plano, Richardson and Garland where more Jewish senior citizens are living in assisted living homes.
