Why Do We Perform Such Mitzvot?

Visiting the sick and bereaved is a part of a wider commitment to love our neighbor, because on a spiritual level all human beings are the same and must be loved as such, and as we recognize our own needs, we see our responsibility to our congregational family's and neighbors' needs.
