Rabbi Amy Ross grew up in Dallas, right here at Temple Emanu-El, and was involved in synagogue life from a young age. Beginning at age sixteen, she taught in the Temple Emanu-El Religious School and was involved in DAFTY as a teen. Rabbi Ross also spent fifteen summers of her life, as both camper and staff, at the Union for Reform Judaism’s Greene Family Camp in Bruceville, Texas. After moving to Connecticut for college, Rabbi Ross continued her involvement in the Jewish community, teaching in various religious schools for ten years, and serving as the advisor for the West Hartford, Connecticut, chapter of the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY). Rabbi Ross earned a B.A. in Psychology from Eastern Connecticut State University and, in 2009, a Master’s in Education from Xavier University. She was ordained in 2010 at the Cincinnati campus of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. During Rabbi Ross’ time in Cincinnati, she served student pulpits in McGehee, Arkansas, Bluefield, West Virginia, Des Moines and Bremerton, Washington, and Paducah, Kentucky. Rabbi Ross also served rabbinic internships in Glencoe, Illinois, and Tacoma, Washington. As part of her rabbinic training, Rabbi Ross served as a Chaplain Intern at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Additionally, Rabbi Ross served for one year as the Interim Religious Education Director at Temple Beth El in Tacoma, Washington, and the Affiliate Chaplain for Jewish Life at the University of Puget Sound, also in Tacoma, Washington. Rabbi Ross joined the Temple Emanu-El staff in 2010 as the Director of Youth Learning, guiding and leading the Religious and Hebrew schools. She is married to Justin Ross, also a Temple Emanu-El and Dallas native, an Estimator at Brandt Engineering. Rabbi Ross and Justin have a lovable black lab and enjoy cooking and spending time with family and friends. They are both thrilled to be home and once again part of the Temple Emanu-El community. |
