Rabbi Asher Knight, Assistant Rabbi

Rabbi Asher Knight was ordained in 2007 at the Cincinnati campus of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He grew up in Denver, and graduated from the University of Denver cum laude in 2001, with a major in International Studies, and a concentration in Middle East issues.

Prior to joining our Temple staff in June 2007, Rabbi Knight served as Rabbinical Intern at Rockdale Temple in Cincinnati for two years, where his work encompassed a wide range of rabbinic responsibilities and engagement with congregants of all ages. In particular, Rabbi Knight has extensive training and experience in Clinical Pastoral Education, including the summer he spent as a chaplain at Children’s Medical Center here in Dallas. Rabbi Knight is already known and well-liked among many of our Temple kids because of the numerous summers he spent on staff at Greene Family Camp.

Rabbi Knight also has a family connection to our congregation: he is married to Ana Bonnheim, daughter of our members Malcolm and Beverly Bonnheim, and herself a fifth-year rabbinic student at HUC-JIR in Cincinnati.

Rabbi Knight’s programmatic responsibilities at Temple Emanu-El will include serving as rabbinic liaison to our Older Adults and Caring Congregation programs, overseeing our Outreach programming and the work of our Social Justice Council, and coordinating the Confirmation program. Like all of our rabbis, he will have a full range of responsibilities in leading worship, officiating at Life Cycle events, teaching, preaching, counseling and serving as a full member of our pastoral team.
